Creative Campus Innovations Grants
The Association of Performing Arts Presenters launched the Creative Campus Innovations Grant Program in 2006, which is funded through a $1.5 million grant from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation ( http://www.ddcf.org/) to strengthen the arts on campuses. Through this program, Arts Presenters will award grants to college and university presenters for a variety of campus-based activities that more fully integrate the work of arts presenters into the life of the academy and the community and for campus presenters working collectively with other college or university partners to maximize resources and capacities in the performing arts. Projects took place between April 1, 2007 and May 31, 2009. The program encouraged college and university presenters, their campuses, and partners to propose projects that go beyond conventional practice and perspectives, feature innovative or experimental approaches, connect with arts and non-arts constituencies, and stimulate discussion and debate. In 2004, the American Assembly at Columbia University convened to discuss the performing arts and their role within higher education. This report summarizes the 104th American Assembly and introduced the concept for the Creative Campus Innovations Program.
